After spending more than a decade with my face buried in books, I received my obstetrics and gynecology license in 1972.
Then, three years later, I received my doctorate degree and joined a private clinic. Work schedule there was hectic, and my eating schedule inevitably became just as erratic.
Lunch at four in the afternoon or dinner at just before midnight became the norm, and it all started to take a toll on my health. Eventually, I developed hypertension and coronary ischemia.
I continued to work hard despite my ailing health and opened my own clinic in 1986. Work became even more demanding, which led to severe chest pains. In 2005, I found out that one of my coronary arteries was clogged and had three stents put in.
My creatine level at the time of the surgery was already at 1.8, which was 0.45 points higher than normal. At 1.8, I was technically a chronic angina case. Although it would have been possible to lead a normal life provided that my creatine level stayed below 4, anything higher would’ve meant reliance on dialysis.Despite trying every known treatment, my creatine level kept climbing. By May 2009, it was up to 2.55 and I had to start considering dialysis. I sat in on as many kidney-related conferences as I could and tried to keep up with the latest findings.
However, I knew full renal function recovery was impossible and that the only thing I could do was slow the progress.
Then, by pure chance, I heard about stem cells from an acquaintance. Hopeful and confident, I started to receive stem cell treatment right away and made drastic changes in my diet, habits, and lifestyle in general.
Then a miracle took place after my fifth stem cell injection. In March 2010, for the first time in ten years, my creatine level dropped down to 1.78. Words can’t describe how happy and relieved I felt.
Today, I am active and still practicing medicine and feel nowhere near as tired as I used to. There are still so many things I want to do with my life, and I am grateful to stem cells for giving me a new lease on it.
